Non-uniform illumination endoscopic imaging enhancement via anti-degraded model and L1L2-based variational retinex

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a novel image enhancement algorithm via anti-degraded model and L1L2-based variational retinex (AD-L1L2VR) for non-uniform illumination endoscopic images. Firstly, a haze-free endoscopic image is obtained by an anti-degraded model named dark channel prior (DCP). For getting a more accurate transmission map, it is refined by using a guided image filtering. Secondly, the haze-free endoscopic image is decomposed into detail and naturalness components by light filtering. Thirdly, a logarithmic Laplacian-based gamma correction (LLGC) is added to the naturalness component for preventing color cast and uneven lighting. Fourthly, we assume that the error between the detail component of the haze-free image and the product of associated reflectance and background illumination follows Gaussian-Laplacian distribution. So, the associated reflectance component can be obtained by using the proposed L1L2-based variational retinex (L1L2VR) model. Finally, the recombination of modified naturalness component and associated reflectance component become the final result. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm reveals more details in the background regions as well as other interesting areas and can mostly prevent the color cast. It has a better performance on increasing diagnosis and reducing misdiagnosis than other existing enhancement methods.

Mission-critical monitoring based on surround suppression variational Retinex enhancement for non-uniform illumination images
In this letter, a surround suppression variational Retinex enhancement algorithm (SSVR) is proposed for non-uniform illumination images. Instead of a gradient module, a surround suppression mechanism is used to provide spatial information in order to constrain the total variation regularization strength of the illumination and reflectance. The proposed strategy preserves the boundary areas in t...
متن کاملBlind restoration for nonuniform aerial images using nonlocal Retinex model and shearlet-based higher-order regularization
Aerial images are often degraded by space-varying motion blur and simultaneous uneven illumination. To recover high-quality aerial image from its non-uniform version, we propose a novel patch-wise restoration approach based on a key observation that the degree of blurring is inevitably affected by the illuminated conditions. A nonlocal Retinex model is developed to accurately estimate the refle...
متن کاملReduced complexity Retinex algorithm via the variational approach
Retinex theory addresses the problem of separating the illumination from the reflectance in a given image, and thereby compensating for non-uniform lighting. In a previous paper [10], a variational model for the Retinex problem was introduced. This model was shown to unify previous methods, leading to a new illumination estimation algorithm. The main drawback with the above approach is its nume...
متن کاملAn L1-based variational model for Retinex theory and its application to medical images
Human visual system (HVS) can perceive constant color under varying illumination conditions while digital images record information of both reflectance (physical color) of objects and illumination. Retinex theory, formulated by Edwin H. Land, aimed to simulate and explain this feature of HVS. However, to recover the reflectance from a given image is in general an ill-posed problem. In this pape...
متن کاملModified Panel Splitting Naturalness Preservation For Non- Uniform Illumination Images
Image enhancement is an important tool for processing image. There exits many enhancement algorithms, in which Retinex algorithm enhance details of an image and is widely used. Retinex algorithm can remove illumination but cannot maintain the range of reflectance, hence it is not essential for non-uniform illumination images. So to preserve naturalness along with enhancing the details we propos...
